AGENDA:
- 08h30: Arrival and Registration
- 09h00: Welcome and Introduction
- 09h15: Keynote by Elias Masilela
Focusing on the macroeconomic landscape, Elias Masilela will sketch the “bigger picture” by discussing global and national economic contexts. Masilela highlights strategies for maintaining impact amidst global challenges, particularly from the U.S., and stresses the importance of measuring global climate change effects alongside local socio-economic themes to ensure continued relevance and effectiveness in policy and investment decisions. - 10h00: Understanding regulation in B-BBEE (Transformation) and ESG reporting
Navigating regulations in B-BBEE and ESG reporting is essential for aligning corporate strategies with compliance and stakeholder expectations. This involves understanding South African laws like Employment Equity for gender targets, alongside international standards for remuneration and ownership transparency to manage global reputation. The regulatory landscape also influences Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) initiatives. For ESG and climate concerns, knowledge of IFRS S1 and S2 is key, where S1 covers broad sustainability disclosures and S2 addresses climate-specific reporting. Such understanding helps avoid legal issues, enhances corporate reputation, improves investor relations, and increases market competitiveness, portraying companies as responsible and forward-thinking. - 11h00 Networking tea break
- 11h30 Narrating reporting and organisational impact
Discussing solutions as a prerequisite for effective reporting. We’ll explore why balanced reporting is crucial, highlighting examples of companies that have been fined due to unbalanced reporting practices. This will lead towards how organisational impact is measured through balanced reporting, emphasising the importance of meaningful metrics. We will conclude with storytelling examples to illustrate how well-narrated, balanced reporting can positively influence organisational perception and outcomes. - 12h30: Designing and implementing impactful and reportable ESG solutions
ESG solutions that are both effective and transparent. We’ll discuss integrating core design principles like sustainability, ethical practices, and stakeholder inclusivity into our corporate framework. The objective is to ensure our ESG initiatives are not only impactful but also aligned with reporting standards, enhancing our ability to communicate progress, attract investment, and maintain accountability in our environmental, social, and governance commitments. - 13h30: Lunch
- 14h30 Meaningful measurement: The role of technology
Technology plays a crucial role in this by providing tools for data collection, analysis, and reporting that are both accurate and scalable. Analytics, AI, machine learning and WhatsApp technologies offer ways to track, verify, and communicate ESG metrics. This not only ensures compliance with emerging standards but also enhances transparency, enabling stakeholders to make informed decisions. Technology thus serves as a bridge between intention and impact, transforming ESG from a compliance checkbox into a strategic asset that drives real-world change. - 15h30 Closing and Take-outs
- 16h00 Drinks and Networking
