18 FEBRUARY 2022 – Live Industry Update: Requirement for B-BBEE Compliance of Fruit Industry Role Players
At the end of 2021, the Perishable Products Export Control Board (“PPECB”) issued a communication to its clients, the exporters of perishable products, requesting that a valid B-BBEE certificate be submitted to the PPECB by December. This has raised some concerns within the Fruit Industry as to the direction and intention of such a request, which originated from the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development.
B-BBEE compliance remains a key risk area for role players in the industry and this session aims to give up-to-date feedback around the specific compliance request directed at fruit exporters, as well as the B-BBEE compliance requirements that all role players face in the industry.
The following topics will be covered:
- A brief overview of the challenges faced by stone & pome stakeholders in terms of compliance.
- Feedback to the PPECB’s request for B-BBEE certificates and the implications for producers and exporters.
- A brief background on the B-BBEE legislation and how it impacts producers and exporters.
- The risks involved with “non-compliance” and trends that we have picked up from other sectors in terms B-BBEE requirements.
- A basic overview of the AgriBEE scorecard and key requirements to achieve an acceptable compliance level.
- Questions (if time allows).
Alternative Prosperity specialises in the field of transformation advisory and will be presenting this feedback session in conjunction with Hortgro. In addition, Ilse Myburgh-Leendertz from PPECB will also provide some clarity and feedback relating to their recent request for compliance.
